Description

GERMANY, Berlin: Frauke Petry, head of the Alternative fur Deutschland (Alternative for Germany, AfD) political party, speaks following initial state election results on March 13, 2016 in Berlin, Germany. State elections are a crucial test-case for German Chancellor and Chairwoman of the German Christian Democrats (CDU) Angela Merkel, who has come under increasing pressure over her liberal immigration policy towards migrants and refugees. The three-year-old populist AfD won 15.1 percent of the vote in Baden-Wuerttemberg and 12.6 percent in Rhineland-Palatinate, official results showed. It finished second in Saxony-Anhalt with some 24 percent, according to projections by ARD and ZDF television with most districts counted.
