COSTA RICA, La Cruz: Cuban migrants are pictured in a migrant shelter in La Cruz, in the province of Guanacaste, northwestern Costa Rica, on January 9, 2016. A first group of 180 Cuban migrants attempting to enter the United States are scheduled to depart Costa Rica on January 12, 2016. They will depart by plane to El Salvador, before having ground transportation to the Guatemala-Mexico border and, then, to the US. An estimated 7,000 Cubans have been waiting on the Costa Rica-Nicaragua border since November 14, 2015, when the Nicaraguan government denied them access.
