IRAQ, Baghdad: Contestants in the Miss Iraq beauty pageant strike a pose on December 18, 2015 in Baghdad. Shaymaa Abdelrahman, the 20-year-old, green-eyed knockout from Kirkuk, would be chosen as the first beauty queen in Iraq since 1972. While Iraq is most often depicted as a contentious, war-torn area on the geopolitical landscape, this pageant is a means to show the world that many Iraqis still love life at home.
