ITALY, Pompeii: The body of a victim of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 is scanned using modern imaging technology at the Pompeii archeological site near Naples, Italy on September 29, 2015. In late September, a team of archeologists, anthropologists, radiologists, dentists and engineers appointed by the Archaeological Superintendence of Pompeii released the first results of a landmark project in which 86 bodies preserved in ash and plaster are being studied using computerised axial tomography (CAT) machines.
