A fair swell at Bombo kicked up large waves that smashed the clusters of hexagonal basalt columns which are an internationally recognised geological phenomena formed from volcanic action. The sun highlights the red-brown colour (due to oxidisation of haematite) of the sandstone which contrasts the grey-black latite which displays spectacular columnar jointing.
